Overview

The RAM® Universal Laptop Mount (Legacy) (RAM-VB-196-SW1) installs quickly and easily to the passenger seat rails using the existing vehicle hardware. This laptop mounting kit is telescoping, allowing users to adjust the height ranges from 12” to 18”. Dual swing arms provide articulation and 12” of reach for passenger and driver access to the mounted device. RAM® rubber ball and socket technology provides additional adjustability as well as shock and vibration isolation. This bundle features the legacy RAM® Tough-Tray™ laptop holder that accommodates 10" to 17" laptops (measured diagonally). The tray features four adjustable retaining arms with rubber grips that can be moved both vertically and horizontally. These arms allow for a custom fit for laptops of varying thickness while not blocking drives or ports. Upgrade your mounting kit with compatible accessories that are not included, such as the RAM® Adjustable Screen Support and RAM® Power Caddy. Integrated 2-hole AMPS mounting locations around the tray perimeter allow for easy attachment of accessories such as printers, handheld devices, or scanners.   • Can someone sit in the passenger seat while this mount is installed?

    Technically someone can still sit in the passenger seat when this mount is installed but the mount does take up a considerable amount of leg room and it does make the passenger seat much less comfortable.

  • Can I use this on right-hand drive vehicles?

    No, for right-hand drive vehicles we recommend our RAM-VB-196-1-SW1.

  • Will this work in a 2017 Nissan Titan

  • Will the base fit a 2025 4Runner?

    This is our universal mount so you will want to check that your seat bolt distance to the range we have under the SPECS tab. Customers also find it helpful to look at the installations instructions.  

  • Will this work for 2023 Jeep Gladiator

  • What is the diameter of the mount tube sections?

    The outer diameter is 1.5" and the inner diameter is 1.375".

  • What is the maximum weight that this mount can hold?

    The part is made up of C-size parts, making it's weight capacity 4lbs for standard use and 3 lbs for heavy-duty environments. We've seen customers use it in many rougher environments right at the weight capacity.

  • Can this fit in a 2023 or 2024 Tesla Model Y?

    You will want to compare your seat bolt distance to the hole pattern range on this product page. 


  • Assuming the measurements in the compatibility guide work, could these be used in the back seats?

    Yes, as long as the seat bolts fall within the compatible range and there is sufficient room on the floorboard. Please find the installation instructions here to provide examples of how that base can be installated.

  • What is the weight capacity of this mount? Can it handle a 5-pound laptop?

    Yes, 

    Typically, the maximum weight recommended for the C size components is 4lbs, but the swing arms for the no drill mounts are able to support more weight than the double socket arms.

  • How can I be sure the universal mount is compatible with my vehicle before placing an order?

    There is a compatibility guide available in the Resources section of this product page. The compatibility guide will show you how to measure your passenger seat bolts and surrounding area to make sure the mount can be installed in your vehicle.

  • Does this work with the RAM® Remove-A-Pole Riser for Vehicle Laptop Mounts: RAM-VB-REM1?

    No, the RAM-VB-REM1 is not compatible with the RAM-VB-196-SW1 (Universal No Drill Laptop Mount). The Remove-A-Pole is attached between one of the vehicle specific no drill bases and a lower tele pole, the lower pole in the Universal No Drill Laptop mount is welded to the base plate itself.
