December 12, 2019
The RAM® Mounts Fishing Team is comprised of unique talents including tournament anglers, licensed fishing guides, and more, which is why we’re excited to feature team members and their adventures.
This month we’re featuring Jaxton Orr. Despite still being in high school, Jaxton is quickly becoming a standout in the world of kayak angling. Learn more about what drives his passion for fishing, along with his impressive list of top finishes at a huge range of tournaments.
How did you first get into fishing?
My dad has always had a passion for fishing, and I am extremely blessed that he passed that passion on to me when I was 5 years old. Ever since, I have been in love with the sport of fishing.
What’s your earliest fishing memory?
After I completed the second grade, the only thing I wanted to do to celebrate was to fish with my dad at our neighborhood pond. That night my dad and I caught bass left and right, and I will forever remember that experience!
What are your fishing specialties?
I really enjoy fishing for largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass in tournaments across the United States. I also love to go ice fishing for bass, panfish, and pike during the winter hardwater season in northern Indiana.
Describe what your ideal day of fishing would look like:
My ideal day of fishing would be an entire day of fishing Lake St. Clair in Canada on opening day. I love nothing more than catching behemoth smallmouth in clear water on a sunny day. The anticipation of the next bite is truly addicting.
What made you want to go into competitive fishing?
For as long as I can remember, my dream has always been to fish for a living. Three years ago, I invested in a Hobie Pro Angler 14, and that has proven to be one of the best decisions I have made in my lifetime! I was fortunate enough to place 3rd out of 70 participants in my very first tournament performance. It has been an awesome adventure with consistent performance since. I am beyond blessed to be where I am today.
Do you see yourself as a role model in the sport?
For me, personally, I have never looked at myself as a role model. All I want to do is follow God’s word and be the absolute best I can be. When I see kids younger than me writing Bible verses on their hands (like I do every tournament), it brings me complete happiness. I love when I can be a positive influence on someone else and make a positive impact on another’s life.
What do you love to do outside of fishing?
Besides fishing, I enjoy hanging out with my family, playing basketball, attending boat shows, watching football and basketball, listening to country music, and organizing events.
Top tournament finishes:
I have been incredibly thankful to have earned 15 first place finishes, seven second place finishes, and five third place finishes. Some of my favorite experiences have been:
1st – Indiana Kayak Anglers – Morse Reservoir
1st – Indiana Kayak Anglers – Tippecanoe River
1st – Indiana Kayak Anglers State Championship – South Mud and Nyona Lake
1st – Indiana Kayak Anglers One Night Stand

Favorite RAM® Mounts product:
I love all of the mounts I own by RAM® Mounts. But my favorite is the RAM® Twist-Lock™ suction cup mount for my windshield – paired with the RAM® Quick-Grip™ XL – because it makes reading the GPS app so much more convenient and keeps my phone easily accessible during travel.
