MEDTRADE '99: The Final Installment
by Adrienne Falk Bergen PT ATP/S CRTS

Here it is folks, the final installment. I can’t believe there was so much to write about. I never did finish the hall (the first time ever) and I stayed until the exhibitors were boxing up their stuff! I never got to visit with the folks from TiSport, the people at Teftec (I really wanted to drive that Omega Trac chair this year and play with the power tilt and the front kneeling feature) or the people who make the EZ on Vest for auto safety.  I never got to take the Omega Trac, the Permobil Trax, the Invacare front wheel drive Arrow with weighted rear end, the Quickie 626 or the big new Pride Chairs for test drives over the rugged and standard terrain setups in the Pride booth and the Teftec booth.

I consider myself lucky that I finished shooting all my pictures and took good enough notes to write these articles for you . . .

On Friday night I was out to dinner with some folks from Pindot and Kathy Bazata and Kerry Jones asked me what I thought was the most exciting product at the show. I told them I try not to do “favorite” or “best” product choices because years ago I got into trouble when I was joking around and picked a “product of the year.”  But, alas, Saturday caught me off guard. I hit three products in a row that have to qualify as very, very, very exciting, and each for a different reason. So, I saved this article for them . . .

R-A-M TECHNOLOGY

On the last day, afraid that I would never make it through the exhibit hall, I started in the last row. As I walked along, I ran into Russ Hauptman, an old friend in the business. He greeted me and then invited me to look behind me. I turned around and saw the most incredible booth filled with bits and pieces of black hardware configured to support everything from a laptop to a navigational device. The pieces were part of the Round-A-Mount (see photo) system. This incredible ball and socket mounting system is made up of marine grade aluminum with black powder coated finish. It looks great, seemed to take lots of pressure, and is lightweight.  I am always looking for ways to mount stuff to wheelchair and walker frames. This product has been used by the aerospace and defense industry in boats, airplanes, submarines, etc. I couldn’t wait to tell everyone I ran in to to dash over to this booth and let their imaginations run wild.

Time to go to sleep . . . this has been one heck of a run but I am happy to have taken the time to share with you.
