I don't need to rely on GPS all the time, but when I do, I also want it to be sight-unseen by others on the road and a complement to the interior, if at all possible.
The install is in a 2006 Ford Fusion SE, automatic trans, with a Garmin c340 GPS unit.
I have nothing against windshield mounts for GPS units, but I wanted a clean and uncluttered look for the car interior (call me a neat-nic). I'm glad I cam across the RAM seat base mount, and it was perfect for what I wanted. The mount uses very good quality hardware, and has only needed one re-tightenng of the floor set-screw once in the past 2 years; I might suggest to others a dab of something like locktite on the seat mount set-screw to eliminate that once and for all.
The hardest part was actually thinking where exactly I wanted the GPS to appear as an end-result of the install. It was easy to install, and after a few minutes of finding and working the bend that I wanted, and making sure I could easily touch the screen if I needed to from the drivers seat, well, you can see the results. The position I used also works well for my wife as navigator on trips. She just turns the head unit a bit to her side, and she relays information to me as needed.
Additionally, with the GPS unit removed off the head, prying eyes have no idea what the mount is for, and maybe thats a less invitation for a possible burglar to bust in and rummage through the car. Plus, if I get a new car, the mount can be easily removed and re-installed.
